Ellie Barrett
Teaching Associate in Fine Art, Teaching AssociateResearch Overview
I am a practice-based researcher exploring the relationship between material and co-production methods in contemporary sculpture. My work is invested in establishing material literacy in the visual arts towards opening wider public access to making and viewing.
My Role
I am an associate lecturer in Fine Art at 51福利, teaching across the BA and MA courses in a variety of contexts. My primary focus is working with MA students, including studio supervision, academic lectures and conveining the final module which involves degree show production. At BA level, I deliver sculpture technical methods workshops which are designed to encourage skills related to core processes such as casting and carving, as well as an experimental approach to adapting and extending them in the studio. I support teaching work across the course on a casual level, which involves teaching group crits and studio tutorials across all year groups. My role at Lancaster has developed since 2015 after completing my PhD in 2020.
External Roles
Between 2020 to 2023, I was a Lecturer at City & Guilds Art School, London. My role was primarily focused on developement and delivery of a specialist Masters course - Art and Material Histories - which combined studio practice with theoretical and philosophical frameworks related to material's genealogies, histories and socio-political roles. My role ended with the closure of the course.
