Dr Jenny McHugh
Associate LecturerResearch Interests
My research explores the concepts of loyalty, rebellion and authority in Scotland in the fourteenth century. My doctoral research explored the allegiance of Scottish bishops in the Second War of Independence between 1332 and 1357. My interests include the impact of warfare and violence on non-combatant communities, political allegiance and identity, pre-modern understandings of the nation, and medieval ritual. I have also published on the personnel of medieval, colonial governments in Historical Research.
