[ Back to Trust in Governance ]

Trust in governance also applied to issues relating to recovery funds and regeneration initiatives set up in the wake of the epidemic:

Why haven’t they got one agency? Fair enough there can be sub divisions one agency in charge of all the money (…) our village we’re trying to get an after-school club together for those of us who are working parents and our kids are going to school and you know we’ve applied for five or six different grants and we’re getting things like ‘well you can’t apply for ours because you’ve applied for theirs but if you don’t get theirs come to us (…) I mean what is going on?
(Group meeting, 2003)

A walking festival planned for May 2002 is cancelled
People say, ‘well why have you cancelled it?’ But it’s things like the inflexibility of the authorities to be able to give us the grant, you know we have to put in the grant application so far ahead we can’t take the risk of saying ‘well we can do it now’.
(Small business, interview, 2002)
I am feeling bitter as there is all the money in the rural recovery fund to help rural Cumbria and rural economy yet my future seems so insecure as ever.
(Front line worker, diary, 2002)
I feel like I’ve been degenerated!
(Group meeting,  2003)
