Jordan Blanchard-Lafayette
PhD studentResearch Overview
My research focuses on developing an understanding of how cultural and environmental changes can happen in tandem, and in some cases, work to accellerate one another. My PhD research looks at applying this in an Amazonian case study, where environmental changes often begin with deforestation frontiers, but may continue beyond the initial frontier as political and economic opportunities, and ultimately, culture change. What is the impact of these changes on livelihoods and culture? How does a change in culture feed back into this system and encourage further environmental change? These broader questions characterize my research interests quite well.
More broadly, I have worked on the IPBES Values Assessment 2022 (chapter 2) as a contributing author, and have worked on other projects (as lead and support researcher) looking to leverage environmental values for positive social and environmental outcomes.
